Should we blame Flick ?
No — I’ll be the last person to blame Flick. Come on, guys, let’s talk about the summer preparation first.
We were supposed to go to Japan… then not… then yes again. Honestly, it was a terrible tour. We didn’t prepare properly at all. We didn’t give Flick and his staff the chance to get the team ready for the new season. Our president just wanted to collect money, sending us to Japan and South Korea purely for financial reasons — nothing more. There was no time to prepare physically like last year or to play against strong teams such as Liverpool, who didn’t even qualify for the Club World Cup.
But okay, fine — that happened. The truth is, we simply didn’t give Flick enough time to do his work with his staff.
Now, the main reason why I’ll never blame Flick: we all know he wanted a defender. He insisted on getting Tah, but of course, Deco didn’t care. He was more focused on Nico Williams — and we all know he ended up signing for Bayern Munich. But even worse, not only did they ignore Flick’s request, they actually weakened him by letting our best defender — Flick’s key player — leave without signing any replacement.
Flick will be the last person I blame, even if we go trophyless this season.
Who should we blame then? The people who, for the fifth season in a row, promised we’d return to the 1/1 rule and start the season playing at Camp Nou. Guess what happened instead? The first three games were away, then we played at the training ground, and then at Montjuïc again.
So, I wouldn’t be surprised if Flick decides to leave after this season. He came into a club that was mentally and psychologically broken — a complete disaster in every possible way — and he turned it around, building a scary team that won three titles.
What I’m blaming is the president and his staff.
They need to fix this.
